Delaware's
Olympians
The university has a glpatf li!|k
to the world of ice skating. Several
well known teams train at the
Blue Ice Arena and are coached
by Ron Ludington, a former
Olympic skater. Calla Urbanski
and Rocky Marval were the U.S.
National Champions in 1992 and
also represented the U.S. at the
Olympics in Albertville, France.
This pair also trained at the university.
Although they did not win
a medal, they stole everyone's
hearts as being America's Blue
Collar Skaters. The pair placed a
respectable seventh at the Olympics.
When asked what it was like to
be in the Olympics, Marval said,
"Take the biggest adrenalin rush
you know and times that by ten."
Urbanski and Marval became very

famous around the country. They
appeared on talk shows and at a
Welcome Home show they performed
to a literal standing room
only crowd.
The pairs teams of Elaine Asanakis
and Mark Naylor and Min
and Ho Jung also trained at the
university. These teams both
skate for other countries and were
scheduled to compete in the
Olympics but were unable. Naylor
and Asanakis were supposed
to skate for Greece (Asanakis's father
is from Greece) at the Olympics,
but they did get to skate at
the World Championship for
Greece. The Jungs are members
of the 1992 Korean World Team.
They also didn't compete at the
Olympics but did at the World.
