Step 5: Create a Backup Policy
Configuring the NetBackup Media Server
You can initiate backups manually whenever you like. Optionally, you can set up a backup policy,
which initiates backups automatically according to the conditions you specify. NetBackup provides
both a command line interface (CLI) and a graphic user interface (GUI). You can use either to
create a back up policy.
To use the NetBackup CLI, enter commands similar to the following:
# bppolicynew mypolicy
# bpplinfo mypolicy
-set -v -residence dd22_lsu1_su
bpplinfo: INITIATING: version NetBackup 6.5 created: 2007072322
bpplinfo: EXIT status = 0
# bpplsched mypolicy
-add Fullbackup -st FULL
# /bpplclients mypolicy
-add load64a Linux SuSE2.6
# bpplinclude mypolicy
-l -add /etc
# bpplinclude mypolicy
-l -add /home
To use the NetBackup GUI to create a backup policy:
1. Open the administration console’s Policies window.
