Error Logging
Troubleshooting the NetBackup Environment
The principal tool for troubleshooting problems on the NetBackup side with the Data Domain OST
plug-in is the error log. Before starting a backup, restore, or optimized duplication operation, run
the following script on the NetBackup media server to enable logging. The script depends on your
operating system:
UNIX
# /usr/openv/netbackup/logs/mklogdir
Windows
C:\Program Files\Netbackup\logs\mklogdir.bat
Data Domain System
Alternatively, you can enable logging from the GUI.
To enable logging:
1. Expand the NetBackup Management node.
2. Expand Host Properties.
3. Select Master Servers.
4. In the right pane, double-click the machine name. The property window is displayed.
5. Select a logging node from the tree pane.
6. Set the global logging level to 5, and click OK.
Once you have enabled logging, the OST plug-in prefixes error and informational log messages by
the name of the plug-in: DataDomain.
