A storage lifecycle policy is a list of destinations for backup images and a retention period for each image. A lifecycle process creates, retains, and finally destroys the images. An advantage of using storage lifecycle policies is that you can specify different retention periods for the initial backup and for the duplicate. For example, you might specify different retention periods for a duplicate at a disaster recovery site and for the original local backup. The example in the following procedure creates a lifecycle policy that first backs up to an OST-enabled Data Domain system and then creates a duplicate copy on another OST-enabled Data Domain system. The first storage destination is of type Backup to the first OST-enabled Data Domain system. The second storage destination is of type Duplication to the second OST-enabled Data Domain system. To use the NetBackup GUI to create a storage lifecycle: 1. Open the administration console’s Storage window. 36 OST User Guide
2. In left pane go to NetBackup Management > Storage. Right-click Storage Lifecycle Policies. Select New Storage Lifecycle Policy from the context menu. The New Storage Lifecycle Policy window is displayed. 3. Click Add to specify a destination for backup. The New Destination window is displayed. dd22_lsu1_su 4.
