However, corporate governance is not an exclusive label or luxury reserved for big boys. It has become a necessity for small and medium firms. The importance of practicing good corporate governance and cultivating strong corporate culture can no longer be ignored in the SMEs sector as well as the economic development agenda in Kenya. To help the sector come to this awakening, the Ministry of Trade and Industry and the Chamber of commerce will need to work closely with all partners in the SMEs sector to bring home the message to our SMEs. In this regard, many seminars to raise the awareness of SMEs on the importance of corporate governance and the proper roles of company directors will need to be organized as the first move in the right direction.
