Obtaining a Licence<br />
Learner’s permit or licence<br />
Application forms can be obtained at any Customer Service Centre<br />
and some remote country police stations. The locations of Customer<br />
Service Centres are listed on <strong>the</strong> back cover of this <strong>handbook</strong>.<br />
Proof of your identity and address<br />
You must provide evidence of your identity and address when<br />
applying for:<br />
• a licence or learner’s permit in South Australia for <strong>the</strong> first time, or<br />
• a replacement licence or learner’s permit if you cannot supply your<br />
current photographic South Australian licence or permit.<br />
You must produce your driver’s licence when applying for:<br />
• a renewal of your licence<br />
• a change of licence class to drive o<strong>the</strong>r classes of vehicles.<br />
unless your photograph and signature has already been digitally<br />
stored in <strong>the</strong> South Australian Licensing System; o<strong>the</strong>rwise evidence<br />
of identity (including your current address) is required.<br />
You must produce your current driver’s licence or learner’s permit<br />
when undertaking a practical driving test, hazard perception test or<br />
Competency Based Training & Assessment (CBT&A) course.<br />

Identification documents<br />
At least three documents are required to provide evidence of identity<br />
with at least one document provided from both category A and B<br />
(see next page).<br />
Your signature, date of birth and current address must all be provided on<br />
at least one piece of evidence. If none of <strong>the</strong> documents from Category<br />
A and B show evidence of your current address a fourth document must<br />
be provided (see Evidence of Residential Address below). Documents<br />
must be originals and issued within <strong>the</strong> allowable time. Photocopies/<br />
extracts or commemorative certificates are not acceptable.<br />
Evidence of residential address<br />
If not already established by Category A or Category B documents one<br />
of <strong>the</strong> following is required:<br />
• financial institution statement (bank statement) up to one year old<br />
• telephone, gas or electricity account (up to one year old)<br />
• water rates, local government council rates or land valuation notice<br />
(up to two years old)<br />
• certificate or statement of enrolment from an educational institution<br />
(up to one year old)<br />
• contract of purchase, current lease or rental document for relevant<br />
premises<br />
• vehicle registration certificate (current)<br />
• SA driver’s licence or vehicle registration renewal notice for <strong>the</strong><br />
coming period<br />
• land tax valuation notice (current)<br />
• Australian Taxation Office assessment (last or current financial year)<br />
you should black out your tax file number before presenting this<br />
document<br />
• Australian electoral enrolment confirmation<br />
• a letter from <strong>the</strong> principal of a recognised educational institution<br />
verifying <strong>the</strong> person’s address (up to one year old).
