Third Party (Property) Insurance<br />

This insurance covers any damage caused by you to ano<strong>the</strong>r<br />

person’s property (e.g. <strong>the</strong>ir car), but not your car. It is relatively<br />

inexpensive and can be arranged by individual vehicle owners<br />

directly with an insurance company of <strong>the</strong>ir choice. If your vehicle<br />

is not covered for Third Party (Property) Insurance, you may have<br />

to pay <strong>the</strong> repair costs for <strong>the</strong> o<strong>the</strong>r person’s vehicle if you are<br />

responsible for a crash, and <strong>the</strong>se costs can often be very high.<br />

Comprehensive Insurance<br />

This insurance covers you for Third Party (Property) Insurance and<br />

will also pay for <strong>the</strong> damage to your own vehicle (even if <strong>the</strong> crash<br />

was your fault).<br />

Driving an unregistered or uninsured vehicle<br />

You must not drive an unregistered motor vehicle or vehicle without<br />

CTPI insurance (uninsured vehicle), or allow an unregistered or<br />

uninsured motor vehicle to stand on a road.<br />

You must not drive on a road a motor vehicle that does not carry<br />

<strong>the</strong> current registration label issued for that vehicle. A registration<br />

label must not be altered in any way. The vehicle must not carry a<br />

registration label that has expired, was not issued for that vehicle<br />

or is an imitation of a registration label.<br />

You must not drive a motor vehicle on a road unless a number<br />

plate or plates that bear <strong>the</strong> number allocated to <strong>the</strong> vehicle are<br />

attached to <strong>the</strong> vehicle. Number plates must not be altered in any<br />

way. The vehicle must not carry a false number plate.<br />

Visiting motorists – registration requirements<br />

A motor vehicle may be driven in South Australia without<br />

registration in this State:<br />

• if <strong>the</strong> garage address of <strong>the</strong> vehicle is outside South Australia<br />

and <strong>the</strong> vehicle is in this State temporarily<br />

• <strong>the</strong> vehicle is registered in ano<strong>the</strong>r State or Territory or is<br />

permitted to be driven on <strong>the</strong> roads within ano<strong>the</strong>r State or<br />

Territory of <strong>the</strong> Commonwealth by virtue of a permit or o<strong>the</strong>r<br />

authority granted<br />

• any current registration label, certificate, card, permit and<br />

plate or plates that are required to be fixed to <strong>the</strong> vehicle are<br />

duly fixed<br />

• <strong>the</strong> vehicle has valid CTPI.<br />

You must register your vehicle in South Australia within 90 days of<br />

<strong>the</strong> vehicle’s garaging address being in South Australia.<br />
