Improvements for Responsive Business Integration: Sonic and Actional
Configuring Actional Interceptors
When using Progress Actional Management Server with Sonic ESB, you might need to
add additional Actional interceptors to a Sonic container to improve its visibility.
Common use cases for adding interceptors to a Sonic container are:
● Using the Actional JDBC interceptor to instrument the database interactions of a
Sonic Database service.
● Using the Actional Servlet and CXF interceptors to instrument the SOAP and REST
interactions of a Sonic Connect service.
To set up the interceptor on the container, do the following:
a. Import the interceptor JARs into sonicfs.
b. On the container’s Resources tab, enter the classpath of each of the interceptor
JARs.
c. On the container’s Environment tab, set a com.actional.aops system property for
each interceptor to enable it.
Sonic automatically enables the Actional PlugMaker Java agent when the property has
been set.
For example, to enable the Actional JDBC interceptor:
● Add the classpath of actional-jdbc-interceptor.jar as a prepended classpath.
● Add the system property named com.actional.aops with the value
com/actional/lg/interceptor/jdbc/jdbc.aop.
Refer to Progress Actional’s Interceptor Guide for details about the com.actional.aops
property.
See the Progress Sonic ESB Configuration and Management Guide chapter “Using
Actional with Sonic Components” for more information about Actional Servlet and CXF
interceptors to instrument the SOAP and REST interactions of a Sonic Connect service.
