healthy se<strong>de</strong>ntaries and athletes (26, 39). In healthy wom<strong>en</strong>, a 4% greater RA thickness (assessed<br />

with ultrasounds) has be<strong>en</strong> reported for the dominant compared to the non-dominant middle<br />

portion (18). Giv<strong>en</strong> the symmetric nature of<strong>Pi<strong>la</strong>tes</strong> exercises we also hypothesized that <strong>Pi<strong>la</strong>tes</strong><br />

may serve to reduce or <strong>el</strong>iminate pre-existing asymmetries in the muscles of the abdominal wall.<br />

Paragraph N umber 3 Therefore, the main aim of this study was to <strong>de</strong>termine the effects of a<br />

standardized 36-week <strong>Pi<strong>la</strong>tes</strong> training program on the volume ofRA, obliques and transversus<br />
