INTRODUCTION:
The number of persons, whose age and over, tend to be larger and progressively
increase while their needs and the importance or their requirements in the
health and epidemiological context are increasing too. Despite the relevance of
this situation in an occidental society as the Basque Country one, the study of
these subjects from the bio-demographic and epidemiological point of view, has
remained still in a secondary place and the number of papers related with this
issue is still scarce. This situation makes necessary a new study with the
objective of analysing thoroughly the mortality due to different causes, as well
as its repercussion over the life expectancy.
OBJECTIVES:
i) To estimate specific mortality rates by cause of death, geographic area,
sex, age and year of death.

To estimate, the risk of death, depending on the cause of death for each
year of the total period time, adjusted by geographic area, sex, and age in
the target population.
To calculate the risk of death due to different death causes for each age
(from 65 to 100 years), adjusted by geographic area, sex, year of death in
the population.
