“Esta tetera de cobre nació para representar la tradición y también comunicar un
mensaje. En la localidad de Coya, donde el río Cachapoal está contaminado por residuos
de la minería, vi sumergirse a un pato. ¿Qué buscaba Quedé marcado, porque siempre
están más arriba, hacia la cordillera, donde no hay contaminación. Me volqué entonces
a diseñar algo en torno a eso, con la técnica que yo domino, el martillado en cobre, y
que tuviera un mensaje ecológico. El color turquesa, que es llamativo, pero es óxido,
representa la contaminación del río. Siento que la artesanía tiene que ser mucho más que
un objeto bonito, tiene que decir algo más. El Sello de Excelencia y el Reconocimiento
Unesco me han dado la certeza de que voy por el camino correcto”.
This copper kettle was born to represent a tradition and communicate a message. I saw a duck dive in the
locality of Coya, where the River Cachapoal is polluted with mining waste, so what was it looking for This
left a permanent mark on me because they are always higher up in the unpolluted hills. I then worked on
creating something related to this using beaten copper which is my medium, something with an ecological
message. The color turquoise is attractive but is an oxide that represents the pollution of the river. I believe
that handicrafts should go beyond a pretty object they should have more to say... The Seal of Excellence and
Unesco Recognition are indications of the fact that I am working along the correct lines.
