As we have mentioned in the previous chapters,
the traditional character of handicrafts that have
their own territorial features is part of the collective
imagery, either in terms of design or of the techniques
used, which are associated to the value of authenticity
and of the intangible heritage.
Nonetheless, we know that one of the increasingly
important elements involved in the valuation of this
type of objects and especially their validity or use
in modern times. In other words handicrafts should
not be museum pieces, but works in permanent
adaptation, whose sole objective is to keep their sense
of being which is associated to a use and a function, not
only in terms of utilitarian function, but also in terms
of symbolic and even decorative function.
This adaptative quality, which is more inherent
to contemporary design and creation becomes an
important feature when we refer to traditional
pieces, and even in a creative counterpoint, also
termed innovation. This concept not only applies to
handicrafts, but to all aspects of life, as if our culture
gave them a new intrinsic value. How then, can
innovation represent an added value to handicrafts
