• We began a collaboration with El
Nuevo Día Educador (ENDE by its
Spanish acronym), in which the
Museum invites artists to talk to
students of schools participating in
the ENDE project. Its purpose is to
put students in direct contact with
artists and their development process
as such, in order to encourage them
to consider art as a career option.
The artist Carmelo Sobrino donated
his time for this project.
Promotion of Our Programs:
• We were invited by two educational
institutions of renowned specialties in
education, the Consejo de Educación
Superior de Puerto Rico and the College
Board, to present our educational
strategies as a museum at their
respective annual conventions.
Family Programs:
• Once a month we celebrate Family
Sunday, in which we offer workshops
and lectures to families. Most of
these lectures are based on our
temporary exhibitions.
• Un salto de diversión a Europa was
this year’s theme for our summer
camp, held June 6 to 30. We had 56
participants. Of these, five students
from the Lago Garzas sector in
Adjuntas, Puerto Rico, received
scholarships from the Luis A. Ferré
Foundation.
Innovative Activities:
• On November 21 and 22, we held
our first Simposio Internacional de
Crítica de Arte, titled: ¿Quién la
escribe ¿Quién la lee ¿A quién le
importa
Critics, writers, editors, and journalists
from Sao Paolo, Brazil (Fabrio Cypriano),
Spain (Santiago Olmo), Mexico (Carlos
Monsivais and Teresa del Conde), the
U.S. (Eleonor Heartney), and Puerto Rico
(Edgardo Rodríguez Juliá) participated in
this event.
Agustín Arteaga and Joel Weinstein were
in charge of the academic coordination,
and the presenters were Mario Alegre
Barrios and Rubén Ríos Ávila. The MAP
was in charge of the administrative and
logistic aspects before, during, and after
the event.
An average of 90 persons a day attended
the event, among them artists, gallery
owners, art students and professors,
personnel from other museums, and
general public. The symposium was held
at the Universidad del Sagrado Corazón
in Santurce. The event was sponsored
by the Puerto Rico Tourism Company.
