• We began a collaboration with El<br />
Nuevo Día Educador (ENDE by its<br />
Spanish acronym), in which the<br />
Museum invites artists to talk to<br />
stu<strong>de</strong>nts of schools participating in<br />
the ENDE project. Its purpose is to<br />
put stu<strong>de</strong>nts in direct contact with<br />
artists and their <strong>de</strong>velopment process<br />
as such, in or<strong>de</strong>r to encourage them<br />
to consi<strong>de</strong>r art as a career option.<br />
The artist Carmelo Sobrino donated<br />
his time for this project.<br />
Promotion of Our Programs:<br />
• We were invited by two educational<br />
institutions of renowned specialties in<br />
education, the Consejo <strong>de</strong> Educación<br />
Superior <strong>de</strong> Puerto Rico and the College<br />
Board, to present our educational<br />
strategies as a museum at their<br />
respective annual conventions.<br />
Family Programs:<br />
• Once a month we celebrate Family<br />
Sunday, in which we offer workshops<br />
and lectures to families. Most of<br />
these lectures are based on our<br />
temporary exhibitions.<br />
• Un salto <strong>de</strong> diversión a Europa was<br />
this year’s theme for our summer<br />
camp, held June 6 to 30. We had 56<br />
participants. Of these, five stu<strong>de</strong>nts<br />
from the Lago Garzas sector in<br />
Adjuntas, Puerto Rico, received<br />
scholarships from the Luis A. Ferré<br />
Foundation.<br />
Innovative Activities:<br />
• On November 21 and 22, we held<br />
our first Simposio Internacional <strong>de</strong><br />
Crítica <strong>de</strong> <strong>Arte</strong>, titled: ¿Quién la<br />
escribe ¿Quién la lee ¿A quién le<br />
importa<br />
Critics, writers, editors, and journalists<br />
from Sao Paolo, Brazil (Fabrio Cypriano),<br />
Spain (Santiago Olmo), Mexico (Carlos<br />
Monsivais and Teresa <strong>de</strong>l Con<strong>de</strong>), the<br />
U.S. (Eleonor Heartney), and Puerto Rico<br />
(Edgardo Rodríguez Juliá) participated in<br />
this event.<br />
Agustín <strong>Arte</strong>aga and Joel Weinstein were<br />
in charge of the aca<strong>de</strong>mic coordination,<br />
and the presenters were Mario Alegre<br />
Barrios and Rubén Ríos Ávila. The MAP<br />
was in charge of the administrative and<br />
logistic aspects before, during, and after<br />
the event.<br />
An average of 90 persons a day atten<strong>de</strong>d<br />
the event, among them artists, gallery<br />
owners, art stu<strong>de</strong>nts and professors,<br />
personnel from other museums, and<br />
general public. The symposium was held<br />
at the Universidad <strong>de</strong>l Sagrado Corazón<br />
in Santurce. The event was sponsored<br />
by the Puerto Rico Tourism Company.<br />
