Operations<br />

Support and collaboration toward new<br />

trends<br />

Operations is in charge of managing<br />

the resources in an efficient manner, in<br />

or<strong>de</strong>r to create an atmosphere of service<br />

and support parallel to the institution’s<br />

expectations. To this end, it supervises<br />

several divisions: Human Resources, General<br />

Services, Technical Systems, Accounting,<br />

the Musarte store, Admissions, and the<br />

Café.<br />

Human Resources<br />

A study of the institution’s organizational<br />

environment at all levels was conducted<br />

this year in or<strong>de</strong>r to obtain a more<br />

complete vision of our employees’ feelings<br />

and to take pertinent action in the areas<br />

that require it.<br />

As part of this process, we hired an<br />

in<strong>de</strong>pen<strong>de</strong>nt human resources consultant.<br />

With the consultant’s collaboration, the<br />

Office of Human Resources began the<br />

process of <strong>de</strong>veloping new initiatives in<br />

human resources management, measuring<br />

their efficiency in accordance with<br />

established objectives, creating training<br />

programs, and broa<strong>de</strong>ning the scope of<br />

management support for the <strong>de</strong>partmental<br />

directors of the institution.<br />

We also created a direct compensation<br />

structure, which inclu<strong>de</strong>s a pay structure<br />

and a procedures manual for its<br />

administration. The labor market used<br />

as reference to <strong>de</strong>velop the payment<br />

structure was the Salary Survey (<strong>2005</strong>)<br />

by the American Association of Museum<br />

Directors (AAMD) and the Puerto Rico<br />

Manufacturers Association (PRMA). This<br />

study has allowed us to a<strong>de</strong>quately<br />

group the positions hierarchically and<br />

to establish a salary scale by steps<br />

for each gra<strong>de</strong>. Currently, we are<br />

<strong>de</strong>signing the performance evaluation<br />

process for the different levels of the<br />

organizational hierarchy and are also<br />

reviewing the employees’ manual.<br />

In its efforts to maintain an environment<br />

of camara<strong>de</strong>rie among the employees,<br />

collaborators, and volunteers of the <strong>Museo</strong><br />

<strong>de</strong> <strong>Arte</strong> <strong>de</strong> <strong>Ponce</strong>, the Office of Human<br />

Resources organized a series of activities<br />

to recognize their extraordinary work in<br />

fulfilling this year’s goals.<br />

General Services<br />

This division is in charge of all matters<br />

related to maintenance, security, transportation<br />

of works of art, preparation of<br />

the areas for exhibitions, and educational<br />

and cultural programs.<br />

The <strong>2005</strong> year was very active, particularly<br />

regarding the improvements to the<br />

physical facilities of the Museum’s main<br />
