en las salas del segundo piso, lo que
resultó en una transferencia exitosa sin
contratiempos.
Respecto al movimiento y seguridad
de las obras que son solicitadas
internacionalmente, colaboramos con la
custodia y seguridad del Retrato de Martín
Zapater de Francisco de Goya y Lucientes,
el cual llevamos al Museo Nacional de
Arte en la Ciudad de México. Al igual,
custodiamos la pintura El secuestro de
Jesús de Monsú Desiderio desde el Museo
de Coeur d’Or en Metz, Francia. Estos
viajes a otros museos representan una rica
experiencia para el personal del Museo ya
que permite la colaboración con colegas
de variadas culturas y la experimentación
de cerca con sus ambientes de trabajo.
Estos logros no hubiesen sido posibles sin
la entrega y arduo trabajo del personal
de nuestro Laboratorio de Conservación,
integrado por Ángel D. Santiago-Torres
“Archie”, Subdirector y Conservador de
Esculturas y Objetos Tridimensionales; John
Vargas, Asistente de ambos departamentos
y ebanista; Patricia Aguirre, Servicios
Profesionales, Departamento de Pintura,
e Isabel Martínez, Servicios Profesionales,
Departamento de Esculturas y Objetos
Tridimensionales.

Calderón y Mario Ferrer por su tiempo,
ayuda y dedicación durante el mes de

Guarding and Conserving
Art for Its Enjoyment
As 2005 came to an end, we felt a
great sense of satisfaction for the many
achievements obtained throughout the
year. The workload required a close
collaboration among the Curatorial,
Registrar, and Conservation Laboratory
Departments and the staff from Exhibition
Preparations. It was definitely a year of
renewal, not only for the physical structure
of the Museum, but also for its public
outreach programs, relevant cultural
activities, and extraordinary events.
This is prove that the Museum has entered
a phase of profound changes that has
brought on an evolution whose impact has
been felt throughout our institution.
We began the year by designing and
manufacturing climate-controlled showcases
for the old books in the temporary
exhibit La Memoria en el papel: Libros y
estampas de la colección Franz Mayer. The
responsibility of evaluating the condition
of all the exhibit pieces was shared with
Víctor Calafell, Curator of Works of Art
on Paper from the Museo Franz Mayer
in Mexico City, who also helped to stage
the exhibition. It is important to mention
that this exhibition taught our community
that collecting art on paper is wonderful
and that there is no need to fear that the
paper will deteriorate, thereby making the
work of art disappear.
