Título: "En busca del polen "Title: "Looking for pollen"170 - ORLANDO SOTOLONGOLa Habana - Cuba - CubaMi nombre es Orlando Sotolongo Escobar, soycubano, tengo 52 años, soy ingeniero agrónomode profesión aunque he incursionadoen la botánica y también trabajé en la EmpresaCubana de Apicultura como técnico de Controlde la Calidad de un establecimiento provincial.Soy aficionado a la fotografía y actualmenteme desempeño como técnico en elJardín Botánico de la Habana, subordinado ala Oficina del Historiador de la Ciudad el cualse encuentra en fase de inversión para su rehabilitación.El árbol al que pertenece la flor que apareceen la fotografía se le denomina en Cuba conel nombre vernáculo de «Bala de Cañón» y sunombre científico es Couroupita guianensisAublet y pertenece a la familia de las Myrtaceas.Es un árbol que alcanza de 15 a 18 m. y sedistribuye en casi todas las provincias del paísaunque con muy poca abundancia por lo queno tiene ninguna importancia desde el puntode vista apícola, al menos en nuestro país.My name is Orlando Sotolongo Escobar, Iam from Cuba, I am 52 years old and I aman agronomist although I have studiedsome botanic and I have also worked at aCuban Beekeeping Company as atechnician for quality control in a provincialshop. I like photography andnowadays I work at the Botanic Garden inla Habana, which is under the HistoricalOffice in the city. This city is in phase ofrebuilding.The tree which the flower in thephotograph belongs to in named in Cuba"Canon Bullet" and its scientific name isCouroupita Guianensis Aublet and itbelongs to the Myrtaceas family.It is a tree which can be 15 to 18 m. highand it can be found in nearly all the citiesin the country although there are veryfew, that is why it has very littleimportance from beekeeping point ofview, at least in our country.- 115 -
