Au microscope, on y voit très nettement des cellules un peu allongées, polygonales (Planche III, 14). Ony voit aussi très bien un petit corps arrondi, brillant, le noyau. La membrane qui limite chaque cellule est composée de cellulose. L'espace compris entre la membrane et le noyau est constitué par du protoplasma, la matière vivante par excel lence.
