CHAPITRE XXV LES ROTIFÈRES En même temps que les Infusoires, on observe souvent des êtres qui leur ressemblent beaucoup extérieurement, mais bien plus élevés en organisation : ce sont les Rotifcres, animaux que l'on place généralement au voisinage des vers. lis ont des organes bien distincts, tube digestif, etc. Leur corps est d'ailleurs souvent composé d'anneaux qui peuvent rentrer les uns dans les autres, comme les tubes d'une longue vue. A la partie antérieure, ils portent souvent des lobes garnis de cils vibratiles qui paraissent tourner sur eux-mêmes comme les roues d'une voiture: d'où leur nom. Pour avoir presque à coup sûr des Rotifèrcs, on met la mousse des toits dans un peu d'eau: au bout d'un jour ou deux, on prélève une goutte de l'infusion et on l'examine au microscope. Plus simplement, d'après de Quatrefages, pour recueillir et étudier ces petits êtres, il suffit de mouiller les mousses et de les
LES ROTIFÈRES 87 exprimer comme une éponge: l'eau, en découlant, entraine à la fois le sable et les animaux qui l'habitent. On en trouvera aussi beaucoup en examinant au microscope les algues vertes d'eau douce ou d'eau marine. Certains d'entre eux se construisent de petits tubes à l'intérieur desquels ils vivent. Dans la planche VIII, nous en représentons un certain nombre (de 4 à 15).
