What is hard water?
What is hard water? Hard water leaves a mineral deposit in pipes and kettles. The layer of minerals
will become thicker with time and end up damaging the pipes if it is not removed. You can test water
to see if it is hard. To do this, you will need the following material:
• 2 glass tumblers
• Water
• Salt
• A measuring spoon
• Liquid soap
• Boiled, chilled water
Fill a tumbler with boiled water and add 5 drops of liquid soap. Boiled water is soft and will easy form
a soapy solution.
Add a drop of liquid soap to a glass of tap water. Mix well. If it does not foam, add another drop of
soap. Keep adding soap to the tap water until you get a foamy solution. If the tap water needs more
soap than the boiled water to become foamy, then the water is hard. What happens if you place
boiled water and salt water in the freezer? Which one will freeze faster?
MUD
What is mud? Is it solid? Is it liquid? To make this fun dough, you will need:
• Corn flour
• Water
• A beaker
• A bowl
• Glycerine
• A lid container
• A dropper
Place 200g of corn flour in a bowl, add 400ml of water and 5 drops of glycerine and mix to
make corn flour dough.
DOUGH ALIEN
Once the dough is ready, we can make a dough alien. To do this, you will need the following
material:
• Coloured papers
• Marbles
• Food colouring
Once the dough is ready, all you need is to give the alien shape. Use coloured paper to make
the horns and marbles for the eyes. Let your imagination run wild... make a really creepy
creature! Keep it in a bag or a sealed container so it doesn't
dry out.
