_SUMMARY
INTRODUTION:
Extra-uterine pregnancy (EUP) is a clinicaI entity which includes aIl
pregnancies whose implantation site is located out of the uterine cavity. It is a
widespread pathology whose incidence bas risen during the last decades,
attaining 2% ofpregnancies. This pathology not only influences the fertility of
patients, but can be life threatening in severe forms. It occurs mostly in young
patients with low parity and who will certainly desire pregnancy in the future.
In Cameroon in 2003, a total of 26% of patients who had laparotomy for EUP
conceived. It bas been observed that medical treatment is associated with fewer
complications, and provides a better chance ofleaving the fa1lopian tubes patent.
This method bas been experimented and is being applied in our teaching
hospitals, but no study evaluating the reproductive outcome bas been carried
out. Elements of reproductive outcome include tubai patency, intra-uterine
pregnancies and recurrence of EUP. We thus decided to explore fertility
prognosis by evaluating tubaI patency after medical treatment of non ruptured
EUP.
OBJECTIVES:
Our main objective was to evaluate tubaI patency after medical treatment
ofnon ruptured tubai pregnancies with intramuscular methotrexate injection.
SpecmcaIly, we sought:
- To descnDe the clinical and sociodemographic characteristics of the
subjects.
- To determine the factors which could influence tubai patency.
- To determine the percentage of tubes which remain patent after medical
treatment oftubaI pregnancies.
