A CONCERT HALL AT THE
FOUNTAIN-HEAD
The Franz Liszt concert hall, which seats about
600, is located in the centre of Raiding, the
birthplace of Franz Liszt, in the immediate vicinity
of the house where the composer was born. The
architects were Atelier Kempe Thill, of Rotterdam,
who were chosen from 150 participants from
11 countries, in an internationally publicised
architectural competition.
Professor Karlheinz Müller, of Munich, the leading
expert in this field, was engaged as acoustic advisor.
All involved in the project had the common goal of
realising the criteria “See – Hear – Experience”.
The walls, supporting sufficiently thick surfaces,
are regarded as ideal for chamber music. With a
seating capacity of 570, a volume coefficient of
about 8m³ per person will be achieved, so that
excellent spatial acoustic properties are to be
expected.
In October 2006 the hall was opened in the course
of the 1 st International Franz Liszt Festival “Liszten
in Raiding”.
To make it possible to create a Liszt commemoration
centre in Raiding, suitable infrastructure
developments were undertaken. In particular, a
new garden area was landscaped to unite Franz
Liszt’s historic birthplace with the grounds of the
concert hall.
