Resolution ISignature, Ratification, Acceptance and Approval of andAccession to the Protocol concerning Cooperation inPreventing Pollution from Ships and, in Cases ofEmergency, Combating Pollution of the MediterraneanSea○ ○ ○ ○ ○ ○ ○ ○ ○ ○ ○ ○ ○ ○ ○ ○ ○ ○ ○ ○ ○ ○ ○ ○ ○ ○ ○ ○ ○ ○ ○ ○ ○ ○ ○ ○ ○ ○ ○ ○ ○ ○ ○ ○ ○ ○ ○ ○ ○ ○ ○ ○The Conference,Recalling the recommendation of the Tenth Ordinary Meeting of theContracting Parties, held in Tunis from 18 to 21 November 1997, to amendthe existing Protocol concerning Cooperation in Combating Pollution ofthe Mediterranean Sea by Oil and other Harmful Substances in Cases ofEmergency, 1976,Further recalling the recommendation of the Twelfth Ordinary Meeting ofthe Contracting Parties, held in Monaco from 14 to 17 November 2001, todraw up a new Protocol rather than to amend the 1976 Protocol,Having adopted on the twenty-fourth day of January 2002 the Protocolconcerning Cooperation in Preventing Pollution from Ships and, in Casesof Emergency, Combating Pollution of the Mediterranean Sea (hereinafterreferred to as the “Protocol”),Emphasizing the need for the Parties having the competence to do so tobecome Parties to all other international instruments relevant to thisProtocol, namely, the international Conventions dealing with maritimesafety, the prevention of pollution from ships, preparedness for the responseto pollution incidents and liability and compensation for pollution damage,as indicated in the Annex to this resolution,Desirous of ensuring that the Protocol shall begin to produce beneficialresults as soon as possible,Having regard to Articles 22 to 25 of the Protocol which govern the signature,ratification, acceptance or approval of the Protocol and accession theretoand its entry into force,13
