Une autre histoire raconte qu’un crocodile avait été
placé et vivait dans le lac Anosy à l’époque de la Reine
Ranavalona 1ère pour la protéger de tout danger. Ce
crocodile remontait à la surface en signe de danger.
Le culte des crocodiles est semblable dans toutes les
régions où on les vénère. Il s’agit d’une réunion ponctuelle
sur le lieu d’habitat des crocodiles. On y sacrifie des
zébus. Les abats sont ensuite donnés à ses bêtes
sacrées et la viande est partagée avec les invités. Cette
cérémonie se déroule dans une ambiance de fête avec
des danses rituelles et des musiques traditionnelles.
C’est également une occasion pour les vénérateurs de
demander grâce à leurs ancêtres.

Another story has it that a crocodile was introduced
and lived in the lake of Anosy during the reign of Queen
Ranavalona I, with the aim of protecting her from all
forms of danger. At the slightest sign of danger, the
crocodile would swim up to the surface of the lake.
The worship of crocodiles is very similar in all the
regions where the reptile is held in respect. Regularly,
the local population gathers at the spot inhabited by
crocodiles, where zebus will be sacrificed. The offal from
the zebu is fed to the sacred beasts and the rest of the
meat is shared out among the inhabitants. The ceremony
is accompanied by celebrations, with ritual dances and
traditional music played. It is also the occasion for the
worshippers to request the grace of their ancestors.
