Traditional medicine / jamoe hasbecome used widespreadly in many countriesand is becoming increasingly popular. In some developing countries, traditionalmedicine has been used by thehealth services, especially in the primarystrata ofhealth services. Developed countries whichhave been dominated by conventional medicinehealth care system are now receivingtraditional treatment, although they callit complementary medicine/alternative,such as in the United States and Europeancountries. In Asia, some of thecountries usingtraditional medicines are China, Korea,India, and also Indonesia.Basic Medical Research (Riskesdas)in 2010, show that 50% of Indonesia’spopulation use herbal medicine to maintaingood health and for the treatment ofillness. Riskesdas data suggest that herbalmedicine is part of traditional medicine, has long been accepted by the people of Indonesia.Although traditional medicine, includingherbal medicine, has been widelyused by health professionals, many healthprofessionals are questioning the value oftraditional medicine (herbal medicine) inthe formal health services. This is understandablebecause in accordance with Lawno. 29 of 2004 on the Practice of Medicine, doctors / dentists in providing health servicesmust meet the standards of medicalcare, which in principle should satisfy therules of evidence-based medical practice(evidence-based medicine). On the otherhand, scientific evidence about the quality, safety and benefits of traditional medicine(herbal medicine) has not been adequatelyassessed/demonstrated to be effective so asto be includedin the formal health services.Traditional medicine (herbal medicine) stillrequire sufficient scientific evidence to promotefor it to be used by health professionals. In order to provide scientific evidencerelated to quality, safety, and benefits oftraditional medicine (herbal medicine), theGovernment of Indonesia, through the theMinistry of Health, has issued RegulationNo. 03/MENKES/PER/2010 about JamoeSCIENTIFICATION. Jamoe SCIENTIFICA-TIONis a scientific demonstration of Jamoeefficacy through research-based healthservices. One aim is to provide a scientificfoundation (evidenced based) through theuse of herbal medicine inempirically-basedresearch services performed in the healthservice, in this case the service clinic herbalmedicine / herbal medicine practitioners. To run theJamoe Scientification in accordancetothe Regulation of the Ministerof Health No. 03/MENKES/PER/2010.the Minister of Health has set RegulationNo.1334 year 2010 on the National Commissionon Jamoe Saintification, with oneof its tasks to develop guidelines for herbalmedicine research methodology.18 Profil Balitbangkes
