Abstract
Sport commentary has two different aspecs. First it is shared by several speakers,
each of whom plays a precise role throughout the match. Second, this commentary is
made up of different types of discourse sequences. On the one hand there are
„descriptive‟ sequences in which the reporter describes what happens in front of his
own eyes; this description is motivated by the action going on in real time and it
leads us to think that these play-by-play actions will be supported by prosodic
variations. On the other hand, these descriptive sequences alternate with either
pseudo-monologue (the reporter knows that he is actually addressing an audience)
or pseudo-dialogue sequences when the commentator develops technical or
strategic considerations during the game (for example when the expert makes
comments). Our hypothesis is that these types of discourse are characterised by
different prosodic features, as well as by syntactic constructions. Our corpus
consists of live TV commentaries recorded during the last (2007) Rugby World Cup.
We recorded 36 hours of TV programmes which permit a „multi-modal‟ (sounds and
images) analysis. We selected the games in which commentaries are available in
French, English and Japanese and these three languages are analysed. We analyse
variations of melodic patterns as well as sudden changes of tempo or rhythm
according to the action actually seen on the screen.
1. Premessa
La cronaca in diretta del giornalista sportivo presenta molteplici
specificità linguistiche che ne fanno un genere di discorso a sè e, in
quanto genere proprio, facilmente identificato dagli ascoltatori.
D‘altronde, e ciò sarà oggetto di una delle parti della nostra analisi (v.
4.2.), sembra che tali specificità linguistiche (lessicali, sintattiche,
prosodiche) siano comuni a diverse lingue. Nel presente articolo, ci
