1.2. Tristram Shandy e Futurismo: aspetti tipografici La poetica <strong>futurista</strong>, come ogni <strong>al</strong>tro movimento, risentì dell‟influenza dell‟<strong>al</strong>lora molteplice sostrato cultur<strong>al</strong>e, causa <strong>di</strong> confronto, ispirazione e a volte netto <strong>di</strong>stacco. Non sono pochi gli elementi desunti d<strong>al</strong>l‟area simbolista e decadentista, fra i qu<strong>al</strong>i le sinestesie, l‟an<strong>al</strong>ogismo e le corrispondenze. Per quanto riguarda l‟aspetto visivo e tipografico si può ricordare fra le fonti <strong>di</strong> questa profonda rivoluzione un‟opera ben più datata del classico esempio m<strong>al</strong>larmeano (il qu<strong>al</strong>e a sua volta ne attinse a piene mani), un libro considerato prototipo del romanzo moderno: The life and opinions of Tristram Shandy, gentleman 10 <strong>di</strong> Laurence Sterne, pubblicato in nove volumi fra il 1759 e il 1767. Non stupisce che questo singolare romanzo sia stato più volte citato qu<strong>al</strong>e precursore delle Avanguar<strong>di</strong>e del Novecento, con particolare riferimento <strong>al</strong>lo spirito del Dada, che d<strong>al</strong> nome agli espe<strong>di</strong>enti tipografici ne ric<strong>al</strong>ca celebri passi. Allo stesso modo, an<strong>al</strong>izzando quelle che appaiono delle evidenti an<strong>al</strong>ogie, è possibile attribuire <strong>al</strong> Tristram Shandy, o <strong>al</strong>le correnti artistiche postume che gli sono debitrici, un posto fra gli scaff<strong>al</strong>i <strong>della</strong> libreria <strong>futurista</strong>. Sterne gioca con la parola, la <strong>di</strong>sseziona, la sostituisce con pagine vuote e con segni grafici, rinnovando drasticamente la rigida struttura del libro <strong>di</strong> epoca settecentesca. A sua volta, come già detto, il futurismo stravolge l‟im<strong>pagina</strong>zione delle parole, inserisce lettere <strong>di</strong> ogni <strong>di</strong>mensione e carattere, simboli matematici, grafemi, asterischi, puntini <strong>di</strong> sospensione; in poche parole tutto ciò che il repertorio tipografico offre. In maniera del tutto strabiliante Sterne concretizzò nella propria opera, con un largo scarto tempor<strong>al</strong>e, quello che d<strong>al</strong> Futurismo <strong>al</strong> Dada e d<strong>al</strong> Surre<strong>al</strong>ismo <strong>al</strong>l‟arte contemporanea <strong>di</strong>venterà l‟assunto fondament<strong>al</strong>e <strong>di</strong> ogni opera: la partecipazione attiva dello spettatore/ lettore. La presenza <strong>di</strong> elementi estranei <strong>al</strong>la lettura del testo, <strong>di</strong> simboli per la tra<strong>di</strong>zione inconciliabili con la sintassi delle frasi, implica lo straniamento del lettore con la conseguente necessità <strong>di</strong> uno sguardo attento, vigile a ricostruire i passaggi mancanti ed i collegamenti sottintesi. Di questa nuova responsabilità venne investito tanto l‟autorevole lettore settecentesco del Tristram Shandy 11 quanto il moderno lettore delle tavole parolibere futuriste. Pagine del 10 L.
