set in ontwikkeling A VERY LONG SECOND - Ru Kuwahata & Max Porter
“The people I met and the friendships I built
in the Netherlands is as important to me as
my artistic growth. We shared so many ideas
and cultural differences. We lived and worked
together, shared laughter and sadness, got
frustrated with each other and supported each
other. It was very intense but I cherished the
passionate energy that came with the territory.
I had never worked closely (physically) with
other animators before. Of course in the studios
I had to collaborate with other designers and
animators but we had a single project to work
together. The NIAF was unique in a sense that
there were multiple animators but we were
all working on separate projects. I witnessed
many emotional ups-and-downs and how
everybody treated themselves and others.
Some experiences were unpleasant but I feel
like I have a deeper understanding of emotions
and perhaps I am more sensitive towards other
people. Thank you NIAF for EVERYTHING. Simply,
it was the best time of my life and I hope to
return to the Netherlands (or somewhere in
Europe) to continue my adventure. When I think
about NIAF, I still don’t understand how I was so
lucky to be part of it. 50th artist-in-residence @
deelnemer van juni 2010 – december 2012.
“One thing I definitely realized during my NIAF
time is that I never want to stop doing my own
projects again, even if commercial work only
leaves little time for theme”.
animatie rijk is.
