Caixa baixa de tampa quadrada decorada<br />

com rico trabalho de embutidos de madeira,<br />

tartaruga e osso onde se detecta influência<br />

flamenga e possivelmente mudéjar. A tampa<br />

tem ao centro uma estrela de oito pontas,<br />

cercada por uma moldura de doze estrelas<br />

mais pequenas, inseridas numa reserva<br />

também em forma de estrela. A tampa é<br />

emoldurada por triângulos de osso num<br />

padrão serrilhado. As outras faces visíveis<br />

apresentam decoração semelhante. A caixa<br />

possui asas laterais de ferro originais e um<br />

escudete também de ferro. Ao abrir a tampa<br />

A shallow writing box with square lid,<br />

decorated with a fine wood, tortoiseshell and<br />

bone inlay work where a Flemish and<br />

possibly Mudejar influence may be detected.<br />

The lid is centred by an eight-point star,<br />

surrounded by a reserve with twelve smaller<br />

stars within a star shaped reserve. The lid is<br />

framed by a saw pattern of bone triangles.<br />

The other visible surfaces of the box display<br />

a similar decoration. The iron side handles<br />

are original and the iron escutcheon is later.<br />

The interior is covered in red velvet, and the<br />

inner surface of the lid is painted with an<br />

image of St. Anthony and the Child, within a<br />

roundel surrounded by brightly coloured<br />

foliage scrolls. In Mexican boxes and caskets<br />
