esperar nestas ilhas. Pelo contrário, os elementos menos<br />

bem representados são os tropicais, com apenas 0,9%. Os<br />

elementos oceano -mediterrânico e mediterrâneo -oceânico<br />

estão também bem representados, com cerca de 22% da<br />

bri<strong>of</strong>lora total da Madeira e Selvagens. Os taxa da região<br />

temperada correspondem a 19,3% (26 taxa) da bri<strong>of</strong>lora<br />

total, o que corresponde ao terceiro padrão biogeográfico<br />

mais bem representado na bri<strong>of</strong>lora da Madeira e Selvagens.<br />

Os elementos boreal e subártico -subalpino são os<br />

que têm valores mais contrastantes (correspondendo, respectivamente,<br />

a 11,3% e 1,9% da bri<strong>of</strong>lora). Existem muito<br />

poucos taxa cosmopolitas ou subcosmopolitas (com uma<br />

ampla distribuição mundial) na Madeira e Selvagens, não<br />

tendo sido considerados nestas análises.<br />

group that could be expected in <strong>the</strong>se isl<strong>and</strong>s.<br />

On <strong>the</strong> contrary, <strong>the</strong> least represented elements are <strong>the</strong><br />

tropical ones, with only 0.9%. The oceanic -mediterranean<br />

<strong>and</strong> mediterranean -oceanic elements are also well represented<br />

with about 22% <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> total Madeira Bry<strong>of</strong>lora. The<br />

26 taxa <strong>of</strong> temperate bryophytes are indicative <strong>of</strong> 19.3% <strong>of</strong><br />

<strong>the</strong> total Bry<strong>of</strong>lora. This is <strong>the</strong> third largest pattern in <strong>the</strong> local<br />

bryophyte flora. The most opposite data found are those<br />

corresponding to <strong>the</strong> boreal <strong>and</strong> subarctic -subalpine<br />

elements, which are significantly less (11.3% <strong>and</strong> 1.9%).<br />

Cosmopolitan <strong>and</strong> subcosmopolitan (with wide global distributions)<br />

taxa are very few in number <strong>and</strong> were not considered<br />

in <strong>the</strong> analysis.<br />

Espécies endémicas<br />

Na Madeira e Selvagens ocorrem sete musgos e quatro<br />

hepáticas endémicos, o que corresponde a 2,1% da bri<strong>of</strong>lora<br />

total registada para os arquipélagos. Na Macaronésia,<br />

são conhecidos 25 musgos e 11 hepáticas endémicos (incluindo<br />

os 11 musgos e hepáticas da Madeira e Selvagens),<br />

correspondendo a 5% da bri<strong>of</strong>lora total.<br />

Os géneros com maior número de taxa endémicos são<br />

Pelekium, Echinodium e Fissidens, para os musgos, e<br />

Aphanolejeunea, Frullania, Plagiochila e Radula, para as he-<br />

Endemic species<br />

The Madeira <strong>and</strong> Selvagens endemic taxa comprise<br />

seven mosses <strong>and</strong> 4 liverworts, about 2.1% <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> total<br />

Bry<strong>of</strong>lora. The Macaronesian endemic taxa are 25 mosses<br />

(7 endemic from Madeira) <strong>and</strong> 11 liverworts (4 endemic<br />

from Madeira), corresponding to about 5% <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> total<br />

Bry<strong>of</strong>lora.<br />

The genera that comprise a high number <strong>of</strong> Macaronesian<br />

endemic mosses are Pelekium, Echinodium, Fissidens<br />

<strong>and</strong>, for liverworts Aphanolejeunea, Frullania, Plagiochila
