Trifolium L. (25), Vicia L. (15), Juncus L. (13), Plantago L.
(12), Asplenium L. (11), Carex L. (11), Euphorbia L. (11), Lathyrus
Totals
139 families of vascular plants are reported for the archipelagos
of Madeira and Selvagens. The Poaceae, Asteraceae
and Fabaceae have the highest number of taxa
and altogether amount to 32.5% of total taxa. In fact, 20%
of the families comprise 75.5% of plant taxa (Fig. 1). The
number of plant genera is 577, of which the richest in taxa
are Trifolium L. (25), Vicia L. (15), Juncus L. (13), Plantago
L. (12), Asplenium L. (11), Carex L. (11), Euphorbia L. (11),
Lathyrus L. (11), Lotus L. (11) and Taraxacum L. (10). Most
of the taxa included in these genera are native. 20% of the
genera represent about 52% of the taxa.
