ALTERNATIVE BODY PRACTICES: NEW REGARDS TO THE BODY EDUCATION?<br />

Abstract<br />

The aim of this article is to analyze implications on body education, rendered by alternative<br />

body practices. This goal is justified by their presence after the 80’s, gathering a huge number<br />

of adepts and professionals liked to them. We divided the text in three parts: firstly, we showed<br />

how their creation and development took place, and also several definitions and specification<br />

are given. After that, in the second part, we listed some criticisms received by these practice.<br />

Finally, after having observed the relevance possessed by these practices, as well their close<br />

relationship with cultural and social changes underway, we endorse the need for professionals<br />

who work with such practices, above all physical education teachers, to carry on further analysis<br />

about their limits, possibilities and the consequences that they might have in the several<br />

processes which touch body education.<br />

PRACTICAS CORPORALES ALTERNATIVAS: ¿NUEVAS CONSIDERACIONES SOBRE LA<br />

EDUCACIÓN DEL CUERPO?<br />

Resumen<br />

El objetivo de este artículo es analizar las implicaciones acerca de la educación del cuerpo,<br />

aportadas por las prácticas corporales alternativas. Esta meta se justifica por la fuerte presencia<br />

que estas prácticas llegaron a tener a partir de la década de los ’80, reclutando un número<br />

importante de practicantes y de profesionales consagrados a ellas. Dividimos el texto en tres<br />

partes: en la primera, mostramos el proceso de surgimiento y desarrollo de esas prácticas, al<br />

mismo tiempo en que las conceptuamos y diferenciamos de las prácticas “tradicionales”. En la<br />

segunda, catalogamos algunas críticas hechas a las prácticas corporales alternativas. En la parte<br />

final, observamos la importancia de esas prácticas, así como su fuerte vínculo con las<br />

transformaciones sociales y culturales, y endosamos la necesidad de los profesionales que de<br />

ella se ocupan, sobre todo los profesionales de Educación Física, de reflexionar sobre los límites,<br />

posibilidades e impacto que esas prácticas pueden tener en los más variados procesos de la<br />

educación corporal.<br />
