Na Parte I, Mutações entre a imagem fixa e a imagem em movimento, o autor trata da modificação da criação de imagens através de sistemas organizados por algoritmos, em que há uma transformação do modelo hegemônico da fotografia. Partindo das inovações tecnológicas, elementos da cultural digital e mutações estéticas, há novos estados da imagem. Para dar conta de situar essa imagem contemporânea, Fatorelli traz aspectos da história do cinema e da fotografia, como elementos da Photo Secession (movimento artístico ocorrido nos Estados Unidos no início do século XX), para analisar o atual momento de produção visual, pois já havia intercâmbios entre as obras visuais. Importante mencionar a necessidade de um amplo repertório cultural por parte do espectador para dar conta de compreender e experimentar essas novas obras. “As alternâncias de velocidades da imagem projetada – que oscila entre imobilidade da fotografia e a superaceleração da imagem em movimento – confronta o observador com duas disposições: o seu modo habitual de percepção das imagens em movimento e o seu próprio modo de experienciar a passagem do tempo” (FATORELLI, 2003, p. 26). Nesta parte foram analisadas algumas obras, entre elas: de Lucas Bambozzi, intitulada Postcards (2000), que une fotografias de cartões postais em vídeo, acionando as questões sobre tempo, memória e indicialidade; de Feco Hamburguer, em que a instalação Neutrino (2009), permite interação numa tela imaterial; de Rosângela Rennó, há uma foto-projeção na instalação Experiência de cinema (2004/2005); de Doug e Mike Starn, o mosaic Double portrait in swirl (1985-1986), discute a mobilidade fotográfica. Ao ler o livro o autor indica os sites onde as obras audiovisuais podem ser vistas, o que faz com que se torna uma experiência diferenciada de leitura. A Parte II, Reconfigurações das imagens, Fatorelli aponta que essas novas criações visuais estão em trânsito e requerem um espectador participativo, pois evocam mudanças perceptivas numa ampla possibilidade expressiva que a tecnologia digital proporciona. Essa nova produção é híbrida, quando não se determina onde começa a fotografia e termina o vídeo, a imagem agrega várias linguagens através de superposições e interseções. De acordo com Fatorelli (2003, p. 85), “o trânsito das imagens e entre as imagens, inaugurado pela mobilidade da fotografia e expandido pelas tecnologias imagéticas eletrônicas e digitais, estabelece novas dinâmicas entre a obra e a sua percepção da ordem da mutabilidade”. Nas configurações entre imagem fixa e em movimento, o tempo é o fator preponderante, tanto na construção da obra, já que as máquinas de captura de luz são máquinas de explorar o tempo, como na recepção desta, no momento da percepção criativa. Nesta parte há a análise das obras do próprio autor, como O ar azul da enseada de Botafogo (2009), e de Katia Maciel, como Ver de (2009), que discute o movimento e a imobilidade, a cor e o preto e branco, o interior e o exterior, entre outros aspectos. Desse modo, há uma expansão da visão por parte do espectador, já que as criações requerem uma atitude crítica e participativa. Imagem e afecção intitula a Parte III do livro que trata sobre a participação do corpo na fruição da obra visual, visto que afecção indica o modo como o sujeito se sente. Neste sentido o autor estuda como o corpo absorve essa nova produção como uma experiência singular, despertando para novas formas de percepção. Nesse sentido, a imagem mobiliza a memória através de novos hábitos, “as novas mídias passam a convocar o corpo como um processador de informação, agora chamado a desempenhar as funções seletivas anteriormente delegadas às interfaces midiáticas” (FATORELLI, 2003, p. 141). Da visão para o tato, Fatorelli indica uma ampliação no modo de absorver a imagem através da afectibilidade do corpo, o que permite criar uma estética háptica. Um bom exemplo desse tipo de interação é a instalação, como a obra de Jeffrey Shaw, Place: a user’s manual (2008), em que o usuário fica numa plataforma giratória e controla as imagens que serão expostas nas telas. Outro exemplo é a criação de Rafael Lozano-Hemmer, Under Scan, Relational Architecture 11 (2005), em que aparecem imagens fluidas projetadas através de sensores eletrônicos em função do movimento do corpo do espectador. O livro abre a possibilidade de ver e rever obras contemporâneas a partir dos conceitos e análises abordadas e nos faz refletir sobre essa mescla de linguagens nas produções visuais, sobretudo pelas novas inscrições temporais em que a cultura digital requer participação e reinvenção. Desse modo, a mudança tanto nas obras quanto nos espectadores amplia o modo de criação que traz inovação, mutação, reconfiguração, interação e diferentes temporalidades, entre a imobilidade da imagem e seu movimento há conexões, atravessamentos, simultaneidades que resultam numa criativa cena visual contemporânea.
