Coping with Covid-19 in Suzano
The pandemic of the new coronavirus (Covid-19)
demanded a quick and efficient response from the
government. In Suzano, even during the records of
the disease’s first cases, the telemedicine service was
implemented as an alternative to face-to-face medical
care for patients with suspected Covid-19. The region’s
pioneering initiative has already performed 2,900
consultations in 11 months of operation, guaranteeing
remote medical appointments via video call, free of
charge by calling 0800-484-8001. The main objective
is to prevent the movement of people through health
facilities and thus curb contamination.
Implementation of a quarantine
hospital in the Suzano Arena
The pandemic was also faced with the installation
of the Quarantine Hospital, on the Suzano Arena
premises. The structure received patients for almost a
semester, between April and September 2020. Over
this period, in 135 days, 272 visits were made, of
which 233 people received proper treatment and were
discharged, 32 required transfer to other units of
health, and seven died.
