Community Center of the Best Age
Maria Picoletti offers lectures.
The city also has the Centro de Convivencia da
Melhor Agia Maria Picoletti, the CCMI, which offers
lectures, courses, workshops, and training aimed at the
public of the best age. On average, before the pandemic,
420 people were served each week. There are also
cultural and sports activities on site. All services offered
are free of charge.
During the pandemic, CCMI is closed to preserve the
regulars’ life, but it is producing recorded content from
the classes offered, which will be available in April 2021
on the Suzano Prefecture YouTube channel Suzano City
Hall TV.
Another great leisure partner for the elderly is the
Suzano Social Solidarity Fund, which also offers
activities for the elderly. The Miss and Mister Best Age
Contest is held annually, with the participation of 300
people, the Gymkhana of the Best Age, which has 600
people, in addition to the Balls of the Best Age.
Regional Games for the Elderly (JORI)
The best age also combines with sports. That is why
the Suzano City Hall encourages, through the Social
and Sports Secretariat, with support from the Social
Fund, the annual participation in the Regional Games
for the Elderly (Jori), with an average delegation of
100 people.
There are several modalities, such as volleyball,
playing cards, and bocce ball. In addition to encouraging
healthy exercise, the games promote interaction with
several elderly people from other cities in the region,
creating bonds of friendships that go beyond games!
Still talking about sports, another great ally of the
elderly is the Lian Gong Project, an oriental practice
that unites the age-old tradition of body arts. The
workshops, which were held in person in parts of the
city, attracted older people for free practice around the
city. Lian Gong’s classes will soon be available on ‘TV
Prefeitura de Suzano’.
The rights of the elderly exist to be respected, as well as
to preserve healthy aging. In Suzano, this group receives
attention from the public authorities and finds a city
that welcomes their difficulties, makes services accessible
and brings fullness to those who have already done so
much for the city.
