сейчас унесет за тридевять земель. Поэтому надежней и безопасней
гулять компанией. Отдохнув на галечном пляжике, можно
двигаться дальше — к водопаду. Зимой он скован льдом, и только
в просветы между снегом можно увидеть легкое движение воды.
Но окрестности, которые стоит исследовать от и до, не менее
интересны, чем летом.
Дальше направляемся к пушкам. Артиллерийская батарея береговой
обороны расположена на высоких сопках Кольского побережья,
примерно в одном километре от териберского водопада.
Дойти сюда можно только пешком, держась берега. Пушки, конечно,
уже нерабочие, но когда-то в самом деле охраняли проход
из моря в залив — не забываем, мы находимся у северных границ.
Пограничники, кстати, живут неподалеку. Преодолев еще парочку
гор, можно действительно дойти до края земли. Дальше только
море, а за горизонтом находится Северный полюс.
На обратном пути стоит заглянуть на старую метеостанцию,
основанную еще в 1889 году. Выглядит она несколько заброшенной,
зато приборы в порядке. Здесь можно самостоятельно
посмотреть на термометре температуру воздуха и почвы, на
барометре — давление, с помощью гигрометра узнать влажность
воздуха. Лучше не гадать, какой прибор за что отвечает, а спросить
знающего человека — домик метеоролога за холмом.

a snowmobile, and in summer —
a quad bike. One of the main
Teriberka attractions is a ship
graveyard. The remains of fishing
vessels, destroyed by corrosion
and salt water, lie along the shore
resembling giant fish skeletons.
Then we head off to cannons. The
coastal defense artillery battery
is located on the Kola coast high
hills, about a kilometer from
the waterfall. The place can be
reached only on foot, when you
walk there just stick to the shore.
The cannons, of course, are
already inoperable, but once they
were really helping to keep the
passage from the sea to the bay
under control — don’t forget we
are at the northern borders. Border
guards, by the way, live nearby.
A few mountains ahead there is an
actual end of the world with only
the sea farther on. And beyond the
horizon there is the North Pole.
On your way back drop in at the
old weather station, founded in
1889. It looks somewhat abandoned,
but all the devices are
functioning. You can actually use
the thermometer to measure the
temperature of air and soil, the
barometer — for pressure, and the
hygrometer — for air humidity. It is
better not to guess which device
is responsible for what, but ask
someone knowledgeable — the
meteorologist’s house is just
behind the hill.
