fortress, sacrificial stones, caves, roe deer running
through the forest, and in the water itself, which
5 km from the mouth gets mixed with sea water
and becomes salty, various types of fish and even
turtles.
КАМНИ И ЦВЕТЫ
В Болгарии есть свое явление сродни туровским каменным
крестам или английскому Стоунхенджу — настоящий
Каменный лес. Сюда легче всего доехать из Кранево,
с Золотых Песков или курорта Святых Константина
и Елены. Место поистине мистическое: территория
«леса» усыпана каменными «пнями» и колоннами,
которые не только возвышаются над землей, но
и уходят в нее до 100 м (!) вглубь. Ученые до сих пор
не разобрались, являются эти столпы остатками сталагмитов,
гигантскими окаменевшими кораллами
или средством связи человека с космосом.
Ботаников-эстетов ждут в королевском ботаническом
саду, который находится недалеко от Балчика и Албены.
Здесь в архитектуре дворца королевы Румынии Марии
Эдинбургской органично слились европейская и восточная
культуры. Мария была приверженкой бахаизма — особой
религии, суть которой заключалась в вере в единство
Бога, всех религий и вообще всего человечества. Отсюда
и стилевая эклектика сооружений, которые напоминают
греческое, турецкое и европейское наследие одновременно.
Говорят, королева завещала замуровать свое
сердце в стенах часовни — такая интересная и разносторонняя
была женщина.
STONES AND FLOWERS
In Bulgaria, there is a phenomenon similar to
that of the Turov stone crosses or the English
Stonehenge — it is a real Stone Forest. The easiest
way to get there is from Kranevo, Golden Sands
or St.Constantine and Helena resort. The place
is truly mystical: the territory of the “forest” is
covered with stone “stumps” and columns that
not only rise above the ground, but are also about
100 meters (!) deep in the ground. Scientists have
not yet figured out whether these are stalagmites
remnants, giant petrified corals, or a means of
human communication with the space.
Botanists and aesthetes are welcome at the royal
botanical garden not far from Balchik and Albena.
Here, European and Oriental cultures merge organically
in the architecture of the palace of Marie
of Edinburgh, the Queen of Romania. Mary was an
adherent of the Bahá'í Faith — a special religion,
the essence of which is a belief in the unity of God,
all the religions, and all the humanity in general.
Hence, the stylistic eclecticism of buildings that
resemble Greek, Turkish and European heritage
at the same time. The queen is said to have asked
to bury her heart in the walls of the chapel — so
peculiar and versatile was she.
