Mothers’ responseswere analyzed at the level of individual word (e.g., “cheerful”, “kind”, etc.) and phrasedescriptors (e.g., “being fond of parents”, “being able to stand on his/her own two feet”, etc.)ResultsIn the analyses, percentages rather than frequencies were used to examine groupdifferences in each category and subcategory. With this aim, percentage scores in all SGIquestions were pooled for each main category and subcategory.Results for Main Categories. Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) performed for the mainSGI categories showed that the high-educated mothers (M = 40.7, SD = 12.5) wereconcerned with self-maximization of their children more than mothers in the low-educatedgroup (M = 29, SD =9), (F (1, 38) = 12, p < .01). With regard to the category of ProperDemeanor, low-educated mothers (M = 34.9, SD = 11) were more concerned that theirchildren should be obedient, respectful and well-mannered in comparison to high-educatedmothers (M = 34.9, SD = 7.5), (F (1, 38) = 21.6, p < .001).
