Chess
Chess is one of my favourite activities
at The Ridge. I look forward
to the Wednesday morning chess
practices and I often rush my mother
out of the house. Playing chess
matches against other schools is
also something I enjoy: meeting
boys and girls from other schools,
playing challenging games and not
to mention the delicious food is
certainly a good way to start the
week!
For me, chess is not just a thinking
game, it also teaches a person to be
strategic and to think ahead. Chess
keeps me stimulated and it encourages
me to find different ways to
solve a problem.
Our weekly chess problems and
coaching by our two chess coaches
help us to be armed with new
moves and techniques which help
us to play our opponents. On
Wednesday mornings, the library
is filled with bustling boys who are
all eager and excited to play a game
of chess. Chess is very popular at
The Ridge and I hope it continues
to thrive in the years to come.
The chess team have made a good
start to 2018: we won 2 matches,
drew 1 and lost 1 match. It is a great
start and we hope to continue to
have a happy year ahead.
