of cost cutting, the leading class society is enhancing regional maritime and offshore market<br />

DNV GL recently held its 5th Middle<br />

East Committee and 15th Regional<br />

Offshore Committee Meetings<br />

in Dubai, to share its strategy<br />

and maritime and offshore forecast<br />

with industry experts and to help<br />

propel the maritime & offshore sector<br />

forward. Both committees represent<br />

top decision makers from Ship<br />

& Rig Owners, Shipyards as well as<br />

senior executives from other maritime<br />

related companies.<br />

Middle East Committee Meeting<br />

Sales and Marketing Director for<br />

DNVGL Trond Hodne in his key note<br />

address highlighted the challenging<br />

times facing the industry with<br />

geopolitical uncertainty, coupled<br />

with the impact of expensive regulatory<br />

compliance. He stated that DNV<br />

GL was pleased to see that UAE is<br />

leading the way to developing as a<br />

Maritime Hub. The distinction of<br />

being the first Arab country to win<br />

Category B Membership to the IMO<br />

council will further enhance its position<br />

as the leading maritime nation<br />

in this part of the world. He shared<br />

the DNV GL study on the Energy<br />

Transition Outlook 2018 and Maritime<br />

Forecast with the participants<br />

discussing the implications for the<br />

oil and gas, power & renewables with<br />

focus on the maritime industry.<br />

Jamil Al Ali, Manager Fleet Engineering<br />

Group, KOTC presented the<br />

company’s initiatives with regards<br />

to Energy Efficiency & stated that<br />

“KOTC has committed to adopt all<br />

international environmental regulatory<br />

requirements, hence we have<br />

made it our mission to enhance our<br />

Energy Efficiency, reduce GHG and<br />

Ozone Depleting Substances released<br />

during our operations. To<br />

strengthen our capabilities, we have<br />

implemented ISO Standard 50001<br />

(Energy Management) to manage<br />

energy efficiently and to reduce our<br />

carbon footprint by optimizing fuel<br />

oil consumption.”<br />

Regional Offshore Committee<br />

Meeting<br />

Regional Manager for DNV GL<br />

Southeast Europe, Middle East, and<br />

Africa, Ioannis Chiotopoulos delivered<br />

the opening remarks for the Regional<br />

Offshore Committee in Dubai, where<br />

he addressed the market dynamics<br />

in recent years and the ongoing approach<br />

to make a positive impact. He<br />

clarified, “The market has witnessed<br />

tremendous pressure and undergone<br />

transformation as a result. Barrel<br />

prices have fallen from the high 70s<br />

to the low 50s, big players have decided<br />

to merge, and geopolitical pressures<br />

have been prevalent.”<br />
