Emphasizing the significance of the
UAE Maritime Sector
Amer Ali, Executive Director of Dubai
Maritime City Authority (DMCA),
emphasized, "The maritime sector
is set to contribute progressively to
our GDP over the next few years.
We are committed to supporting
the outcome of the summit, which
has seen in-depth discussions
on knowledge, innovation, smart
transformation. They are important
in overcoming obstacles and exploring
investment opportunities to build
a safe, renewable, sustainable and
futuristic marine community."
Nawfal Al Jourani, Chief officer,
Dubai Maritime Cluster Office,
clarified “The local maritime industry
is one of the five main contributors to
the emirate’s economic diversification
policy, with its share of Dubai’s gross
domestic product (GDP) now stands
at AED 26.9 billion. It has also been
achieving an unprecedented growth
of over 25 per cent since 2011, helping
boost the UAE’s 60 per cent share of
the overall maritime activities in the
Gulf. To date, the country provides a
business-friendly environment to a
large number of specialized maritime
business companies and supports
at least 13,000 maritime and

investment activities, leading to the
generation of 76,000 jobs.”
Al Jourani added, “The UAE
Maritime Week 2018 brought
together multiple stakeholders to
collaborate and contribute to the
progress of maritime industry and, by
extension, their own businesses.”
Maritime future leaders seminar
The week also witnessed the
second edition of the Maritime
Future Leaders Seminar with the
participation of leading regional
and international experts to explore
the prospects of innovation and
smart technology in the growth and
development of the global maritime
sector. The seminar was successful
in defining a clear road map to
explore the best ways to promote
the international maritime sector in
line with the evolving requirements.
The seminar was also an interactive
platform that connected several
maritime students in the UAE with
industry professionals to explore the
potential opportunities within the
maritime sector.
Ali concluded, “We were honoured
to host such extensive panel sessions
about global issues, including smart
shipping, fuel, cyber security, research,
development and innovation,
highlighting Dubai's pioneering
experience as a global model in
developing one of the world's most
innovative, unique and competitive
maritime communities. We look
forward to further strengthening
communication with strategic
partners to drive the growth and
development of the maritime industry
in accordance with the requirements
of the digital era.”
