PV i Undervisningen EFP 33033-0020 This document has been prepare in the context of the project “Solceller i Undervisningen” in order to present an European level overview of existing training and educational activities in the field of photovoltaics with some international examples included. PV i Undervisningen EFP 33033-0020 1.1 Academic training (universities and research institutions) European level training activities are mentioned in the following in a random sequence (for the detailed description of each one of them please see the attached websites). 1.1.1 EUREC (European Renewable Energy Centres Agency): Administers an European Master in Renewable Energy (http://www.master.eurec.be) within which PV is an important part. It is supported by the EC DG TREN through the ALTENER programme; ADEME from France is one of the other sponsors. The participating universities are: - Ecole des Mines de Paris (Engineering school of mines of Paris, France) - Loughborough University (UK) - University of Zaragoza (Spain) - Oldenburg University (Germany) - University of Athens (Greece) - Kassel University (Germany) - National Technical University of Athens (Greece) - University of Northumbria (UK) - University of Zaragoza (Spain) In this programme, students study the first semester at one of the four universities above, where they follow topics relating to all types of renewable energy. PV is part of the core syllabus in solar energy (solar thermal and solar photovoltaics). In the second semester, students specialise in a particular renewable energy at one of the rest five universities. Current options are wind, biomass, PV, hybrid systems or energy in buildings. Those students who choose PV, study at Northumbria (UK). The programme ends with a sixmonth project related to the specialisation taken and undertaken in industry, a research laboratory or at the university. Core courses are taught in three different languages (English, French and Spanish) and the specialisations in English. The course has both European and non-European students and most graduates end up working in the renewables field. 1.1.2 The Solar Institute Jülich (SIJ): At Aachen University of Applied Science also cooperates with a large number of universities and research institutes all over the world (http://www.fhaachen.de/partner.html) and is involved in a number of projects concerning training activities in Europe, Latin America and in the Indo-Asian region. 1.1.3 European Solar Engineering School: (http://www.eses.org) is a one-year program organised by the Solar Energy Research Center (SERC) at Dalarna University in Sweden. This program leads to a Swedish "Magisterexamen" (Master of Science) with a major in Mechanical Engineering and specialisation in Solar Energy Engineering. All courses are taught in English. The programme includes both courses and a thesis; it focuses on designing PV and hybrid systems and on passive solar heating in buildings.
