they can be great friends. That is a lesson that
can not be learned from books, you have to experience
it.
The speeches of the kids from our group were
every emotional, they talked about everything
that happened that week and friendships were
created despite of all the differences between
us and our cultures. But that was the magical
thing about it, that little link you only share
with those people, a special connection.
For the most of us it was a final goodbye, but you
will be always in my heart and thoughts.
After a very educative, interesting and eventful
week spent at Rolduc, during the Euriade project,
the most awaited but also the saddest day came,
for it was our last day together. The high peak of
the workshops was meeting Garry Kasparov at
Burg Rode.
In the morning we researched facts about the famous
chess player that we were about to meet
and debated which questions were the most relevant
for the following interview with this year’s
receiver of the Martin Buber Prize.
After hours of preparation, we finally went to Burg
Rode to wait and welcome Garry Kasparov. Before
Mr Kasparov’s appearance, we took funny group
pictures, realizing it was our last evening we could
spend in each others company. When the guest
arrived, the mayor held a speech and we were invited
inside, for the second part of the event.
What started out as a formal interview, ended up
being an interactive dialogue between us and Mr
Kasparov. Alexei from Russia, Sebastian, Luca, William
from Austria, Garrett from South Africa and
many more other students asked intriguing questions
which raised everyone’s attention.
The closing part of the event was held in Rolduc at
Aula Major. A prologue by Mr Werner Jansen, a piano
concert and Garry Kasparov’s prize-accepting
speech. All together, a very interesting and pleasant
way to officially end this year’s project. I say
officially, because the night wasn’t over for us.
