Meeting
with other Euriade members
I started the trip with no expectations whatsoever.
I was occupied with my school work at the time
and after already traveling this year more than
ever before I was eager to settle for some time and
concentrate on studying. I was excited about taking
part in another interesting project, but didn’t
really give it any special attention. I quickly packed
and got ready for the flight, completely unaware
of how the upcoming week will affect my life.
After a long ride we finally arrived to Rolduc, which
we absolutely fell in love with at the first sight. It
felt like being in a castle, hence in a fairy tale. After
receiving the room keys we impatiently rushed upstairs
to meet our roommates. Unfortunately, they
were set to arrive the next day so I spent the first
night with one student from my country. At the
dinner, while we were waiting to be served, teachers
came to instruct us on how we are supposed
to “mix” with students from other countries. What
followed was our first meeting. We introduced
ourselves and talked about our lifestyles and interests.
I was sitting with two girls from Russia and a
guy from South Africa. It was so interesting talking
to people from places I’ve never visited. It was my
first contact with their countries, through them. All
of them were very communicative and friendly. A
guy from South Africa invited all of us to his room
where we continued our conversation, kept laughing
and had so much fun until deep into the night.
That was the best part of every day, when we, tired
after all the activities, got together in one of the
rooms and summed up our new experiences and
impressions while listening to music and playing
games.
At the breakfast the next morning, nobody needed
to tell us again that we are supposed to “mix”, we
created a new group, and searched for people we
haven’t talked to yet. It was so unbelievably easy
to walk up to somebody and strike up a conversation
which lasted and was enjoyed by both parties.
After breakfast we attended our first workshop.
Constant communication and exchange of
views and opinions on certain topics helped
me to understand others and get to know
them quickly. After only a few days I felt like
I knew these people almost all my life. I really
enjoyed spending time with them. We were like
a family even though we all came from diffe-
