7 Summary
In evaluating the data, the results of the questionnaire were compared with those of
the behavioral test. Many questions of the questionnaire could not be evaluated due
to large imbalances in answering.
When asked about the primary in purchasing the dog a multitude of correlations were
found. Dogs, which were acquired specifically for breeding, showed less approach.
They often showed aggressive behavior patterns, frequent submission behavior
patterns, which was mostly passive submission and less play behavior patterns.
Further studies have to show whether this also applies to other breeds.
On the question of the origin, home bred dogs showed similar behavior patterns.
Dogs of owners between the age of 18 and 40 years showed in a situation twice as
many passive submission than dogs of owners aged between 41 and 60 years.
With the experience of the owner the frequency of approach and of hunting behavior
patterns decreased, while the showing of submission behavior increased.
When comparing gender, females showed more frequent submission behavior, while
males were more relaxed.
In summary it can be said that certain husbandry factors influence the dogs behavior.
The reason and cause can of cause not exactly be determined. The behavior of dogs
arises from the behavioral development, which in turn is a combination of genetically
predisposed and learned behavior in many different situations.
Nevertheless, various parameters of husbandry should be reviewed and optimized.
Whether the obligatory certificate of proficiency for future dog owners in Lower
Saxony is able to do this, remains to be seen.
