Changing with the light
Alexsei Karayev, one of Russia’s
most famous artists, creates his
paintings using fluorescent dye
and uses printing technology to
make them shine under UV light.
He has been employing SUN Innovations’
system based on the
use of varnish with quantum dots.
Karayev says that each of his
paintings has two faces. In daylight
you can see one picture;
under UV light another. Until
now no artist has been able to afford
to create such pieces of art.
It has only been since nano ink
with fluorescent properties began
production.
Karayev uses coverings from
SUN Innovations because of their
unique properties. For example,
they are far more light-resistant in
comparison with other types of
fluorescent coatings, SUN says.
Karayev uses bright, deep colours
in his paintings, which have been
made possible by SUN Innovations’
printing technologies.

How often have you attended?
This is my first drupa.
Why are you at drupa?
I am a hostess at the Xeikon stand.
For me, as a design student at the
Ecosign Akademie in Cologne,
this is a very interesting show to be
at. I am very impressed by what I
can see and all the possibilities
that these printing technologies
have to offer.
How long are you staying?
I am here for two weeks, every day
of the show.

Ich studiere Design an der
Ecosign-Akademie in Köln, da ist
die drupa für mich natürlich hoch
interessant. Wirklich faszinierend,
was es hier alles zu sehen gibt und
was für Möglichkeiten die Drucktechnologie
bietet!
Wie viel Zeit verbringen Sie hier?
Ich bin hier zwei Wochen lang, an
jedem drupa-Tag.

sample dining for international
guests to the drupa show.
Here they present some daily
restaurant tips, gathered from
German print professionals, for
our printing colleagues.
Monkey’s West symbolises an
innovative combination of art and
food. As such, the ambitious head
chef Christian Penzhorn will prepare
dishes from scallops to
guinea fowl or vegetarian dishes
in an artistic environment. Open
daily during drupa, reservations
are recommended, but aren’t always
necessary.

hin zu Perlhuhn und auch vegetarische
Gerichte in einer künstlerischen

drupa ist täglich geöffnet, Reservierungen
sind zu empfehlen, aber
nicht notwendig.
