PALMA’S TEAMS FACE A
NEW SEASON
THE SPORTING CALENDAR FOR 2005 - 2006 starts to turn its first pages and Palma boasts a number of first class sporting events

Football, basketball and volleyball
make their re-entry onto the stage of
the Balearic capital’s sporting scene
with Real Mallorca, Palma Aqua
Mágica, Nacex Jovent and Son
Amar Palma testing their strength
against the best teams in the competitive
leagues in which they participate,
alternating their presence
in the diaries of sports lovers.
Real Mallorca have made eleven
new signings to enable them to
wage a new, properly matched campaign
in the First Division and will
defend their chances of staying up
in the Son Moix ground against other
teams in what is thought to be the
best football league in the world.
Real Sociedad, Málaga, Racing de
Santander, Sevilla, Celta de Vigo,
Athletic de Bilbao and Athletic de
Madrid will be the Mallorquins’
opponents in the first stage of the
season and will enrich Palma’s
attractive football scene.
Palma Aqua Mágica, who, as a rule,
will play their matches in the Son
Moix Municipal Sports Centre at 7
pm on Sundays, are one of the main
novelties this year, due mainly to
the fact that they are bringing elite
class basketball back to the Balearic
capital. This brand-new club in the
Spanish Basketball League (LEB in

great deal to play in the stage previous
to the ACB and has built a solid
team with which to compete in the
highest category in the short term.
For their part, the basketball club
Nacex Jovent will be competing in
the Female League 2 again this year,

the top division. The club presided
over by Jaime Palou has made a
great effort to put together a winning
team.
Once more, Son Amar Palma is
one of the leading clubs in the volleyball
Superleague, in which it is
one of the candidates for the title.
The Mallorquin team is currently
the holder of the Kings’ Cup so
will be defending their pre-eminent
status in this knock-out competi-
tion, and, besides which, will be
carrying the name of Palma around
Europe competing in the Top
Teams Cup. The Son Moix Municipal
Sports Centre will be their
base for their successes
