To BeRlIN's 29 TH loNg NIgHT oF THe museums
The theme of the Long Night of the Museums this
summer is music and over 35 Berlin choirs have
signed up to perform in different venues across
the city. We’ve put together a list of special events
at the Long Night which are suitable for international
visitors, including some of the many musical
performances in the programme.

8.30 � 9.30 � 10.30 pm
u Altes Museum
In the atmospheric setting of the Altes Museum
the Berliner Kantorei choir will be performing Romantic
motets by Anton Bruckner, Johannes
Brahms und Felix Mendelssohn­Bartholdy. (p. 30)
9.00 � 10.30 pm
u Automobil Forum Unter den Linden
Besides their exhibition on automobiles and technology,
the Automobil Forum Unter den Linden
also presents two up­and­coming alternative
bands: Tonbandgerät (9 pm), who use with everyday
objects to complement guitars rhythms, and
Mega! Mega! (10.30 pm), an upbeat indie band
with German lyrics. (p. 37)

u Berliner Planetarium
Under the Planetarium’s night sky projection the
vocal ensemble Kammerton will be singing pieces
from the programme »Mond und Sterne« (»Moon
and Stars«). If you miss them there, the group will
also be performing in the St. Matthäus­Kirche at
11.10 pm (p. 42).

u Computerspielemuseum
The museum’s programme pays tribute to computer
game soundtracks: from 6 to 10 pm the Erich
Fried Choir will be singing an a­capella­version of
the Civilization IV soundtrack every hour; from 10
pm to 2 am gwEm and Microwave Massacre will be
reliving the music of 70’s and 80’s video consoles,
adding their own modern spin. (p. 55)

u Gemäldegalerie
The Pauls Choir will be performing »O bellezza vitale
– o bellezza mortale«, a concert of madrigals
und chansons by Marenzio, Monteverdi, Debussy
und Ravel – moving from the theatricality of the
Italian Baroque to the French Impressionist’s reinterpretation
of Renaissance fantasy. (p. 100)

u Kunstbibliothek/Kupferstichkabinett
The Ibero­Amerikanisches Institut presents the
performance »Trio NeuKlang – lost in tango«, playing
Classical Modern, Tango and Jazz in the Kulturforum’s
Kupferstichkabinett (8 pm, 10 pm) and
Kunst bibliothek (9 pm, 11 pm). (p. 104)

u Ethnologisches Museum
The first of many concerts in the museum’s programme,
»Wir Kinder vom Kleistpark« brings together
nursery and school children and professional
musicians for a singing, dancing celebration of all
music from folk to classical to pop, with the invitation
for everyone to join in. (p. 124)

From 2.50 pm
Alongside their permanent exhibition the museum u Feuerwehrmuseum Berlin
will be showing the English­language film »The short The Feuerwehrmuseum (Fire Service Museum) in
life of Anne Frank« for international visitors. (p. 31) the north of Berlin kicks off the Long Night with a
fire magic show, followed by horse­drawn carriage

bonfire (from 8 pm) and a barbecue. (p. 74)
On the Long Night the museum offers two English
guided tours through their permanent exhibition MACHmit! Museum für Kinder
on German history, as well as a classical musical Labyrinth Kindermuseum
accompaniment. (p. 62)
Both of these children’s museums are offering
workshops for children to make their own musical
instruments out of various materials. The latter
also has a final sing­along concert with the new
instruments at 11 pm. (p. 115/p. 112)
