Welcome<br />

To BeRlIN's 29 TH loNg NIgHT oF THe museums<br />

The theme of the Long Night of the Museums this<br />

summer is music and over 35 Berlin choirs have<br />

signed up to perform in different venues across<br />

the city. We’ve put together a list of special events<br />

at the Long Night which are suitable for international<br />

visitors, including some of the many musical<br />

performances in the programme.<br />

u Altes Museum<br />

In the atmospheric setting of the Altes Museum<br />

the Berliner Kantorei choir will be performing Romantic<br />

motets by Anton Bruckner, Johannes<br />

Brahms und Felix Mendelssohn­Bartholdy. (p. 30)<br />

9.00 � 10.30 pm<br />

u Automobil Forum Unter den Linden<br />

Besides their exhibition on automobiles and technology,<br />

the Automobil Forum Unter den Linden<br />

also presents two up­and­coming alternative<br />

bands: Tonbandgerät (9 pm), who use with everyday<br />

objects to complement guitars rhythms, and<br />

Mega! Mega! (10.30 pm), an upbeat indie band<br />

with German lyrics. (p. 37)<br />

u Berliner Planetarium<br />

Un<strong>der</strong> the Planetarium’s night sky projection the<br />

vocal ensemble Kammerton will be singing pieces<br />

from the programme »Mond und Sterne« (»Moon<br />

and Stars«). If you miss them there, the group will<br />

also be performing in the St. Matthäus­Kirche at<br />

11.10 pm (p. 42).<br />

u Computerspielemuseum<br />

The museum’s programme pays tribute to computer<br />

game soundtracks: from 6 to 10 pm the Erich<br />

Fried Choir will be singing an a­capella­version of<br />

the Civilization IV soundtrack every hour; from 10<br />

pm to 2 am gwEm and Microwave Massacre will be<br />

reliving the music of 70’s and 80’s video consoles,<br />

adding their own mo<strong>der</strong>n spin. (p. 55)<br />

u Gemäldegalerie<br />

The Pauls Choir will be performing »O bellezza vitale<br />

– o bellezza mortale«, a concert of madrigals<br />

und chansons by Marenzio, Monteverdi, Debussy<br />

und Ravel – moving from the theatricality of the<br />

Italian Baroque to the French Impressionist’s reinterpretation<br />

of Renaissance fantasy. (p. 100)<br />

u Kunstbibliothek/Kupferstichkabinett<br />

The Ibero­Amerikanisches Institut presents the<br />

performance »Trio NeuKlang – lost in tango«, playing<br />

Classical Mo<strong>der</strong>n, Tango and Jazz in the Kulturforum’s<br />

Kupferstichkabinett (8 pm, 10 pm) and<br />

Kunst bibliothek (9 pm, 11 pm). (p. 104)<br />

u Ethnologisches Museum<br />

The first of many concerts in the museum’s programme,<br />

»Wir Kin<strong>der</strong> vom Kleistpark« brings together<br />

nursery and school children and professional<br />

musicians for a singing, dancing celebration of all<br />

music from folk to classical to pop, with the invitation<br />

for everyone to join in. (p. 124)<br />

u Anne Frank Zentrum<br />

From 2.50 pm<br />

Alongside their permanent exhibition the museum u Feuerwehrmuseum Berlin<br />

will be showing the English­language film »The short The Feuerwehrmuseum (Fire Service Museum) in<br />

life of Anne Frank« for international visitors. (p. 31) the north of Berlin kicks off the Long Night with a<br />

fire magic show, followed by horse­drawn carriage<br />

u Deutsches Historisches Museum<br />

bonfire (from 8 pm) and a barbecue. (p. 74)<br />

On the Long Night the museum offers two English<br />

guided tours through their permanent exhibition MACHmit! Museum für Kin<strong>der</strong><br />

on German history, as well as a classical musical Labyrinth Kin<strong>der</strong>museum<br />

accompaniment. (p. 62)<br />

Both of these children’s museums are offering<br />

workshops for children to make their own musical<br />

instruments out of various materials. The latter<br />

also has a final sing­along concert with the new<br />

instruments at 11 pm. (p. 115/p. 112)<br />
