MuseuM Der Wünsche
Die Wunschvorstellung von der vollkommenen Sammlung
Wishful Thinking: The Perfect Collection
Mike Kelley, Lumpenprole, 1991, installationsansicht/installation view, mumok, Wien/Vienna
im Buch „Museum der Wünsche“
werden Highlights aus der sammlung
des mumok (Wassily Kandinsky,
Paul Klee, alberto Giacometti, Piet
Mondrian, František Kupka, René
Magritte, Pablo Picasso etc.) zusammen
mit noch auf dem Markt verfügbaren
arbeiten gezeigt, die die sammlung
thematisch ergänzen und erweitern
könnten. Bei knappen ankaufsbudgets,
die mittlerweile bei fast allen Museen
den neuerwerb von Kunstwerken erschweren,
hat sich diese Form der Präsentation
als ideal erwiesen, um private
Mäzene und Förderer zu gewinnen.
so wünscht sich das Museum u. a.
Werke von Cy twombly, Dan Flavin,
Blinky Palermo und Fred sandback,
während mit jüngeren Künstlern wie
Monika sosnowska, Phil Collins,
tacita Dean und stephen Prina das
21. Jahrhundert Einzug halten soll.
Mit texten von Eva Badura-triska,
Wolfgang Drechsler, Elodie Evers,
Rainer Fuchs, sophie Haaser, achim
Hochdörfer, naoko Kaltschmidt, Karola
Kraus, Matthias Michalka, susanne
neuburger, Berthold Rebhandl und
anette südbeck.
the book “Museum der Wünsche”
presents highlights from the mumok’s
collections (Wassily Kandinsky,
Paul Klee, alberto Giacometti, Piet
Mondrian, František Kupka, René
Magritte, Pablo Picasso, etc.) together
with works that are still available in the
market and might complement and expand
the collections in thematic terms.
Given the scant acquisitions budgets
that now hamper efforts to purchase
additional works of art at almost all
museums, this form of presentation
is an ideal way to win the support of
private patrons and sponsors.
the museum hopes to buy works by
Cy twombly, Dan Flavin, Blinky
Palermo, and Fred sandback, among
others; by acquiring art by younger
artists such as Monika sosnowska,
Phil Collins, tacita Dean, and stephen
Prina, it wishes to open its doors to
the twenty-first century. With essays
by Eva Badura-triska, Wolfgang
Drechsler, Elodie Evers, Rainer
Fuchs, sophie Haaser, achim Hochdörfer,
naoko Kaltschmidt, Karola
Kraus, Matthias Michalka, susanne
neuburger, Berthold Rebhandl, and
anette südbeck.
a canard ring in yellow gold with sapphires and diamonds, 2008
Georg Hornemann – Goldschmied
und Künstler (geb. 1940 in Dessau,
lebt und arbeitet in Düsseldorf) – hat
seit den frühen 1960er Jahren seinen
persönlichen stil und damit verbunden
einen souveränen Umgang mit technik
und Material entwickelt. in seinen
Werken ließ er sich immer wieder von
den unterschiedlichsten stilrichtungen
inspirieren; auch anregungen aus
anderen Künsten setzte er in seinen
Goldschmiedearbeiten um. Bereits
1967 bekam er die erste internationale
auszeichnung für herausragende
schmuckgestaltung und gewann in
Folge fast alle bedeutenden Wettbewerbe.
Das Buch zeigt Hornemanns
frühe schmuckentwürfe der 1960er
und 1970er Jahre, seine faszinierenden
Ringkreationen und seine grandiosen
Juwelenarbeiten, die wie kleine
museale skulpturen wirken.
Mit einem Essay von Bazon Brock,
Beiträgen von Rüdiger Joppien und
sandra Mühlenberend und einer Einführung
von Raimund stecker.
since the early 1960s, the goldsmith
and artist Georg Hornemann (b. 1940,
Dessau; lives and works in Düsseldorf)
has developed his personal style and
perfected the masterful use of his
techniques and materials. His works
have drawn inspiration from a wide
range of stylistic sources; he has also
looked to other arts for creative ideas
he has implemented in his goldwork.
since 1967, when he received his first
international award for outstanding
jewelry design, he has won virtually
all important competitions. the book
presents Hornemann’s early jewelry
designs from the 1960s and 1970s,
his fascinating ring creations, and
his splendid work with gemstones—
many of his confections look like tiny
museum sculptures.
includes an essay by Bazon Brock,
contributions by Rüdiger Joppien and
sandra Mühlenberend, and an introduction
by Raimund stecker.
