Die erste monografische
Publikation von Marieta
Chirulescu (geb. 1974 in sibiu,
Rumänien, lebt und arbeitet
in Berlin) ist anlässlich ihrer
Einzelausstellung im september
2010 in der Kunsthalle Basel
erschienen. Das Künstlerbuch
ist in vier teile gegliedert. Der
erste teil besteht aus schwarzweißen
Fotokopien, welche der
Künstlerin häufig als Vorstufen
ihrer abstrakten Bilder auf
Papier und Leinwand dienen.
Essays von Mihaela Chiriac,
Kunsthistorikerin, und adam
szymczyk, Direktor der Kunsthalle
Basel, bilden den zweiten
teil, ausschnitte aus allen in
der ausstellung gezeigten Prints
und Gemälden sind in einem
weiteren teil in Originalgröße
(1:1) abgedruckt. Erst im vierten
teil sind die Werke in ihrer
Gesamtheit abgebildet.

the first monograph created by
Marieta Chirulescu (b. sibiu,
Romania 1974, lives and works
in Berlin) was published in
conjunction with her solo exhibition
at Kunsthalle Basel, which
opened in september 2010. the
artist’s book is divided into four
sections. the first section consists
of black-and-white photocopies
of the sort that frequently
figure as preliminary stages for
the artist’s abstract pictures on
paper and canvas. the second
section contains essays by the art
historian Mihaela Chiriac and
adam szymczyk, the director
of Kunsthalle Basel, that discuss
Chirulescu’s work in depth.
Details from all prints and paintings
on display in the exhibition
appear in full-size reproductions
in the third section. in the fourth
section, illustrations show the
works in their entirety.

Rosemarie trockel (geb. 1952
in schwerte, lebt und arbeitet in
Köln) wurde Mitte der 1980er
Jahre mit ihren strickbildern
international bekannt. Eine
zweite Werkgruppe aus den
1990er Jahren besteht aus
zahlreichen Variationen von
Wandarbeiten und skulpturen,
in denen herkömmliche Herdplatten
Verwendung finden.
Durch diese arbeiten hat sich
die Vorstellung von ihr als einer
Künstlerin verfestigt, die die
Rollenbilder von Frauen in der
Gesellschaft hinterfragt und engagiert
an ihrer Dekonstruktion
mitwirkt. Doch das Werk von
Rosemarie trockel geht weit
über diesen aspekt hinaus. Die
Künstlerin ist ebenso Malerin
wie zeichnerin, Bildhauerin und
Konzeptkünstlerin. Mit texten
von Friedemann Malsch und
Wulf Herzogenrath.

Rosemarie trockel (b. schwerte
1952; lives and works in
Cologne) rose to international
fame in the mid-1980s with
her knitting pictures. a second
group of works from the 1990s
consists of numerous variations
on wall works and sculptures
into which the artist integrates
conventional stovetops. these
works gave rise to the entrenched
notion that she is an
artist who interrogates the images
that define women’s social
roles, dedicated to contributing
to their deconstruction. Yet
Rosemarie trockel’s oeuvre
extends far beyond this one
aspect. the artist is a painter as
well as a graphic artist, a sculptor
as well as a conceptual artist.

Berta Fischers skulpturen sind auf
poetische Weise leicht und licht; sie
bilden eine organische summe aus Material
und Form. Die meisten arbeiten
sind aus transparentem acrylglas oder
durchsichtiger PVC-Folie geschnitten,
gebogen und gefaltet und nehmen
den Betrachter sofort für sich ein. Die
strahlenden neonfarben, gelb, blau,
rot, grün, orange oder perlmuttweiß
erleuchten den Raum auf magische
Weise, wobei ihre Ränder durch das
natürliche Licht in grellen Farben
aufscheinen und Linien erzeugen, die
wie eigenständige zeichnungen wirken.
Um die einzigartige Farbwirkung der
skulpturen von Berta Fischer (geb.
1973 in Düsseldorf, lebt und arbeitet
in Berlin) in diesem Buch wiedergeben
zu können, wurde es in neun Farben
gedruckt. Die steppbindung stellt eine
gelungene Verbindung zu Fischers
neueren arbeiten her.

Berta Fischer’s sculptures are of poetic
lightness and luminosity; they constitute
an organic sum of material and
form. Most of her works are cut from
transparent acrylic glass or sheer PVC
film, bent, and folded; they immediately
captivate the beholder. their radiant
luminescent colors—yellow, blue, red,
green, orange, or pearl white—fill the
room with their magical light; natural
light sets their edges ablaze in dazzling
colors, creating lines that look like
drawings in their own right.
in order to render the unparalleled
color effect of the sculptures of Berta
Fischer (b. Düsseldorf, 1973; lives
and works in Berlin) in this book, it
was printed in nine colors. the stitch
binding also serves as a reference to
Fischer’s more recent work.
