Synthese aus chinesischer Tradition und westlicher Moderne
A Synthesis of Chinese Tradition and Western Modernism
Ji Dachun (geb. 1968 in nantong,
China, lebt und arbeitet in
Peking) hat mit seinen bizarren
szenerien eine unverwechselbare
Bildsprache gefunden.
Einerseits werden in ihr Referenzen
an shanshui, die klassische
chinesische Landschaftsmalerei,
deutlich, andererseits bringt sie
seine auseinandersetzung mit
der westlichen Moderne und der
zeitgenössischen Malerei unter
anderem von Philip Guston, Cy
twombly oder Georg Baselitz
zum ausdruck. Mit der Verwendung
traditioneller sujets und
dem gleichzeitigen Bruch mit
zentralperspektivischen Bildkonventionen
öffnet sich in seinen
Gemälden ein Freiraum für geistige
Kontemplation und innere
Vorstellungskraft. Mit einem
Ji Dachun (b. nantong, China,
1968; lives and works in Beijing)
has found a distinctive
visual language in his bizarre
scenarios. they contain clear
references to shan shui, the
classical Chinese landscape
painting, but also articulate
the artist’s engagement with
Western modernism and the
contemporary painting of Philip
Guston, Cy twombly, Georg
Baselitz, and others. By showing
traditional subjects while
breaking with the conventions
of central perspective, his pictures
open up space for spiritual
contemplation and the inward
imagination. With an essay by
Vielschichtiges Sampling
Many-Layered Sampling
Die arbeiten von Henning Bohl
(geb. 1975, lebt und arbeitet in
Berlin) verweisen aufeinander,
auf das eigene tun sowie auf
andere Kunst(-Richtungen).
Damit geht es Bohl um Erzählen
und darum, wie etwas
erzählt wird. seine in diesem
Buch gezeigten neuen installationen
sind auf das Wesentliche
reduziert. Großformatige Leinwände,
auf die aus Papier ausgeschnittene
Formen collagiert
sind, hängen auf Elementen aus
Rigips, die wiederum auf Holzböcken
gestapelt ein Hybrid
aus skulptur und architektur
bilden. so werden die Bilder
zu Requi siten, während ihren
trägern ein eigenständiger
plastischer und konzeptueller
Wert zukommt. Mit einem
the works of Henning Bohl
(b. 1975, lives and works in
Berlin) refer to one another, to
what the artist himself does as
well as to other (tendencies in)
art. Bohl, that is to say, aims
both at a narrative register and
at how a story is told. the book
presents his new installations,
which are pared down to the essential.
Large-format canvases,
for instance, onto which the
artist has collaged figures cut
from paper, are mounted on
plasterboard elements; the latter
are in turn arranged in stacks
on wooden trestles, constituting
a hybrid between sculpture
and architecture: the pictures
become props; their supports,
conversely, are imbued with a
sculptural and conceptual value
of their own. With an essay by
Größtmögliche Annäherung an die Wirklichkeit
The Greatest Possible Approximation to Reality
Christian Haake (geb. 1969 in
Bremerhaven, lebt und arbeitet
in Bremen) baut Miniaturen von
dreidimensionalen Räumen: eine
Küche, einen Wohnwagen, einen
ticket-schalter, eine Messie-
Wohnung. Keines seiner Objekte
bezieht sich auf einen konkreten
Ort, denn es geht ihm nicht um
Deckungsgleichheit, sondern
um die Differenz zwischen
den Ebenen von Wirklichkeit,
Wahrnehmung und erinnertem
Bild. Für seine ausstellung
White Elephant, die in diesem
Buch dokumentiert wird, hat
Haake das Modell eines Ladeneingangs
im stil der 1960er
Jahre in den langen Raum der
institution eingepasst. Die
vorgefundene architektur wird
so zur Kulisse für potenzielle
Handlungsabläufe.
Working with extraordinary
precision, Christian Haake
(b. Bremerhaven, 1969; lives
and works in Bremen) builds
miniatures of three-dimensional
spaces: a kitchen, a trailer, a
ticket counter, a compulsive
hoarder’s apartment. His objects
never refer to a specific existing
place, as his aim is not to
generate an identical replica, but
rather to bring out the difference
between the planes of reality,
perception, and the remembered
image. For the exhibition White
Elephant, which this book documents,
Haake built a model of
a sixties-style store entrance set
into the elongated room of the
hosting institution. the architecture
he found thus becomes a
backdrop for potential plots.
